BIG WWE Superstar reveals why he REJECTED initial contract offer

Last updated

In the ever-evolving world of professional wrestling, decisions made behind the scenes can be as impactful as those made in the ring. One such decision came to light recently when a prominent WWE superstar opened up about why he turned down an initial contract offer from the company.

Before the world knew him as LA Knight in WWE, he was making waves as Eli Drake in IMPACT Wrestling.

Between 2015 and 2019, he showcased his skills and charisma in the IMPACT ring, earning him significant attention from wrestling promotions around the globe.

The Initial WWE Offer

In 2016, WWE took notice of Knight’s rising stardom and approached him with a contract offer. This wasn’t the first time WWE had shown interest in him; he had previously been on their radar in 2013 after a developmental stint.

However, after making a significant impression in IMPACT, Knight faced a crucial decision when WWE tried to bring him on board.

The Reason for Rejection

In a candid conversation with Interstate 70 Sports Media, Knight shed light on his thought process during that period.

The WWE’s offer, while tempting, would have meant a pay cut from what he was earning at IMPACT. He remarked, “The kind of money that Impact was paying me at the time was something I had never seen before. So, I thought, ‘Why not continue earning this for a few more years and then reconsider the WWE offer?'”

Age and Wrestling: Knight’s Concerns

Despite declining the offer, Knight’s ambition to join WWE never waned. However, he expressed concerns about age playing a factor in WWE’s decision to sign him.

Approaching his late 30s, he was aware that age might be seen as a deterrent. But Knight was quick to point out that, in many ways, he felt like he was operating with the body of a 30-year-old, thanks to his minimal injury and surgery history.
