Vince McMahon has returned with the agenda to sell WWE, but the deal won’t be coming in cheap for any potential buyers.

The WWE chairman returned to the company in early January after having retired last year in July. He first reinstated himself into the board of directors. McMahon was then elected the chairman again as his daughter Stephanie McMahon departed the company. He has been overseeing the process of a potential sale.

Bloomberg provided an update on the sale talks. They revealed that Vince McMahon is asking for a whopping $9 billion to hand over the ownership of the promotion:

“Vince McMahon is looking to get as much as $9 billion in a potential sale of World Wrestling Entertainment Inc., the company he returned to run this year, according to people familiar with his thinking.”

Vince McMahon – Who Could Buy WWE?

The site noted that Endeavor Group which owns UFC and the investors from Middle East are among the most likely buyers. They explained why someone like Disney may hesitate to make the purchase:

“Larger strategic buyers, such as Netflix Inc. and Walt Disney Co., may be uneasy taking on a business controlled by McMahon that involves the sometimes messy personal lives of its wrestlers.”

WWE shares closed at $91.48 on Friday in New York. This puts the current market value of the company at $6.5 billion.
