John Cena is reportedly set to be appearing at the WrestleMania 39 event in a match, but who is the former WWE Champion facing?
Cena recently filmed some material backstage alongside Austin Theory ahead of his match against Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn on the December 30th, 2022, episode of SmackDown, and it appears as though it was related to Cena’s bout at WrestleMania.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer seemed to indicate that this was the case and the 16-time World Champion would be facing the US Champion this April.
“It looks like it’s going to be [John] Cena and Theory at Mania. It was the plan way, way back” Meltzer confirmed on the podcast.
John Cena vs Austin Theory WrestleMania 39
It’s worth noting that this rumor from Dave Meltzer is just that, a rumor, as we are unable to verify whether or not the report is legitimate at this time.
This isn’t the first time that we’ve heard plans for Cena to be facing Theory at ‘Mania, and it certainly looks like this will be the case.
If it does end up being the case, then this is easily the biggest match of Austin Theory’s career thus far, and he will probably get a big win on the Grandest Stage of Them All to set him up for a huge 2023 and beyond.
