Shane Helms is backstage at WWE events and he claims that he has not heard one word about the AEW Rampage ratings this week.
It’s interesting, as there have been several reports stating that backstage there is a lot of talk about the 18-49 demo rating for Rampage ‘beat’ WWE SmackDown this week. Helms however denies that these talks are even taking place.
“As someone who was there, I didn’t hear one word spoken about it. Not a single word” Shane Helms wrote on Twitter, before adding “‘Smart Marks’ getting worked over for dirt sheet clicks is one of the most ironic, yet sadly hilarious, elements in this entire industry.”
The numbers for AEW Rampage and WWE SmackDown from Friday night do certainly tell a story. SmackDown earned an average of 878,000 viewers during the half-hour that it went up against Rampage; the AEW show averaged 603,000.
However, the important 18-49 demo stats show that AEW actually had a hugely successful night. The CM Punk vs. Matt Sydal match that started AEW Rampage averaged 383,000 viewers, whilst the Becky Lynch vs. Sasha Banks match that main evented SmackDown averaged 277,000 viewers.
