A top WWE SmackDown Superstar recently revealed that he was ‘expecting’ the name change he recently got from company management.

Gunther, who was previously WALTER, is the Intercontinental Champion on the blue brand and had his name changed earlier this year.

Speaking on the Out of Character podcast, Gunther revealed why he expected his name to get changed when he was brought to NXT.

Gunther on SmackDown Name Change

‘I guessed it. Walter is my real name. And from the side of the company, it makes a lot more sense if you can actually have some ownership over the name of an athlete that you present or put out there to an audience. So I kinda expected it. But it was fine for me” the former PROGRESS World Champion revealed.

Unfortunately, the SmackDown Superstar is not expected to be part of the SummerSlam Premium Live Event, but he is however expected to have a major role in the company going forward.
