Potential update on The Rock at WrestleMania 39

Last updated

Rumors have been rampant regarding The Rock and a potential match against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39, but what is the latest?

Former WWE writer and Dwayne Johnson’s production partner, Brian Gewirtz, spoke to Steve Fall with NBC Sports Boston and gave his view on the potential return of The Great One.

“I have no idea. I really don’t. All I know is that if and when Rock/Dwayne comes back to WWE, the bar he always sets…the expectation level is so high” Gewirtz began.

“His audience-first mentality? That is very, very real. It (any pro wrestling match) needs to match it, and it needs to be something gigantic” the former WWE writer added.

Will The Rock be at WrestleMania 39?

“[It needs to be] something that’s not just like, ‘oh, that’s a nice attraction,’ or ‘that’s a main event in any arena across the country’ kind of thing. It has to be truly meaningful, impactful, ground-shaking, paradigm-shifting, gigantic, you know?” Gewirtz concluded.

Whilst it isn’t confirmed, Brian using phrases like “if and when” rather than an outright no is certainly interesting.

We have heard nothing from WWE’s end regarding Rocky returning, and it’s likely that if it wasn’t happening by now that they would’ve leaked something to try and quell fan anticipation.

It is not confirmed, but there is a VERY GOOD chance that we will be seeing The Rock vs Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39 in 2023.
