Vince McMahon told Shawn Michaels to focus on a specific demographic when he took over NXT.
The wrestling veteran first joined the brand in 2016 as a trainer. He originally planned on working only as a coach and had expressed multiple times that he had no desire to help run the show.
Shawn’s responsibilities grew, however, when he started working as a writer and producer for the development brand in 2018.
He became responsible for running the show when Triple H had to step away from the company in September 2021 due to a cardiac event.
What Vince McMahon told Shawn Michaels
HBK talked about running the show on the latest No Mercy Media call (H/t WrestleZone). He revealed the conversation he had with Vince McMahon when he first took over:
“When I first had to step in for Hunter and then eventually took over here in NXT, the conversation I had with Vince is him wanting me to focus on that 18-34. I will say this despite other stories that have been out there, it was never being compared to anybody else.
It was just him wanting us to focus on the 18-34 because he wanted us to have a younger demographic. That’s the one that has grown significantly in these last two years, so we’re very proud of that.”
Shawn Michaels discussed a number of other topics during the call including CM Punk. You can click here to read what he had to say about the Straight Edge Star.
