Why London crowd once ‘PISSED OFF’ Vince McMahon

The London crowd ‘pissed off’ Vince McMahon by cheering for heels.

The longtime wrestling promoter is infamous for his knack for micro-management. The boss has been known to make changes to show scripts at the last minute and puzzling people with decisions such as changing the name of superstars for no apparent reason.

Another thing that fans know him for is Vince’s disregard for the crowd’s opinion and his favouring of wrestlers that he likes over people who are getting a bigger reaction.

Vince McMahon was pissed

Things always don’t work out for the boss, however. Former WWE writer Freddie Prinze Jr recently recalled one such incident during a show in London. On the latest episode of his podcast (H/t Fightful), he remembered a night when fans just decided to cheer and boo whoever they wanted:

“I think London was the audience that made cheering heels acceptable and cool. I feel like they started that before AEW did, before WWE fans in America were starting to get hip to heels. In London, they were just like, ‘Look, we get these fuckers once a year. We’re cheering for whoever we want. If we like both dudes, both dudes are getting songs. If we don’t, they’re getting booed. That’s it. We don’t care how you book it.’

The former WWE employee explained that Vince McMahon was not a fan of this behaviour from the crowd, and it actually ‘pissed off’ the former WWE chairman:

“I saw it firsthand when Jeff Hardy and Undertaker went at it over there when I was at the company. I was like, ‘Man, they’re just cheering for whoever they want.’ It pissed Vince [McMahon] off. He didn’t like that.”
