WWE didn’t sign top indie star because he apparently looked too much like WWE’s Chief Content Officer, Triple H.
In a world where WWE dominates the wrestling business, MLW has been able to carve out a place for itself. The promotion run by former WWE writer Court Bauer is home to some of the most notable indie talents.
Two such talents are the current MLW World Heavyweight champion Alex Hammerstone and current MLW National Openweight Champion Jacob Fatu. Both these stars have had tryouts with WWE but they haven’t been offered a contract by the promotion.
Triple H – WWE passed on signing MLW champions
The MLW CEO appeared on Busted Open Radio recently. Speaking about Hammerstone, he revealed that WWE passed on signing the current MLW champion because he looked too similar to Triple H:
‘Hammerstone went for a few tryouts and was told, ’˜You look too much like Triple H. The same with Fatu ’” people forget he had like three or four tryouts at WWE PC. They didn’t sign him. Now, everyone’s like, ’˜He should go to WWE.’”
Similarly, Fatu is the cousin of current Undisputed WWE champion Roman Reigns. Many wonder why he hasn’t joined The Bloodline faction. Bauer explained that people should support the Samoan Star in the company that has given him the spotlight:
‘He [Fatu] has all the love for his family [The Bloodline] and what they’re doing there [in WWE], but he’s enjoying his time in MLW. If you’re finding him on MLW, support the company that gave him that spotlight. Don’t try to fantasy book something, when the machine there [in WWE] didn’t get it, didn’t see it.”
