WWE Producer leaves company to join AEW backstage staff

Last updated

It was recently confirmed that former IMPACT Wrestling star Sonjay Dutt had left his role as a producer with WWE. Dutt apparently made the call to leave following the recent releases of WWE talent.

Sonjay Dutt had been with WWE since January 2019 as a producer, after an Achilles surgery had kept him out in-ring action late 2017. Dutt has not wrestled since sustaining the injury, and currently it is not known if he plans on returning to the ring.

PWInsider confirmed that Sonjay had left his role as WWE Producer specifically to join AEW, with the former X Division Champion even being behind the scenes at this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite.

WWE Producer moves over to AEW

It is believed that Sonjay Dutt has signed on full time to become a Producer at AEW, although this information has not been released publicly by the company or Dutt himself.

This seems to continue a trend of talent, including behind the scenes staff, wanting to leave WWE to move over to All Elite Wrestling. The initial peak of this slowed over the pandemic for obvious reasons, but now we may see more people opt to move over to the competition.

Mark Henry and Paul Wight are arguably the two biggest names that have made their way over to AEW from WWE over the past few months. Whilst the likes of Andrade El Idolo have moved over, they were released by WWE and Henry/Wight reportedly made the choice themselves to work under Tony Khan.
