Kevin Owens, a name synonymous with WWE and its top echelons, recently shed light on the rumours surrounding his potential departure from the company.
Since his debut in 2014, Owens has not only climbed the WWE ladder but has also etched his name among the most celebrated stars.
With titles like Universal, NXT, and Intercontinental Champion under his belt, Owens’ nine-year journey in WWE is nothing short of legendary.
Speculations and Ties to AEW
The wrestling world was abuzz with speculations when stars like Bryan Danielson and Adam Cole made their way to AEW. Owens’ connection with the Young Bucks further fueled these rumours.
However, in December 2021, Owens chose to renew his commitment to WWE, a decision that left many pondering.
Owens’ Candid Revelation
In a candid conversation on TNT Sports, Owens remarked, “I can’t say I was close, but I don’t think I wasn’t close either. I was really open to anything because I didn’t know anything. I had no idea how badly they wanted me to stay here. I had no idea what was possible elsewhere. I had no clue.”
He further added that his discussions about leaving never progressed much. Once Vince McMahon expressed his desire for Owens to stay, he felt his journey in WWE was far from over.
Owens emphasized that his decision wasn’t solely based on his in-ring career. He shared a deep connection with the crew behind the scenes.
He said, “Not even career-wise, there’s also a whole side to this place that people don’t see and people don’t know where we have a really incredible crew. Not the wrestlers, obviously everybody I wrestle with, I have a lot of close friends, but the production crew and people behind the scenes.” He couldn’t fathom the idea of leaving and not seeing these individuals every week.
The Emotional Connection
Owens’ bond with the crew is unique. While he might cross paths with other wrestlers in the future, the bond he shares with the crew is irreplaceable.
He stated, “I couldn’t imagine leaving any of these people behind and never seeing them again. Part of me always felt, ‘I don’t think I can leave,’ but I could if it was better for me and family, whatever it is.”
Contentment in WWE
Expressing his contentment, Owens said, “It became pretty clear, pretty quick, that wasn’t going to be the case. I was happy to stay, I’m happy to be here, and I still get to see all those people every week, which is probably the best part.”
He also took a moment to appreciate the unsung heroes behind the scenes, emphasizing their significance in making WWE special.
