NXT Superstar Damian Priest was recently meant to be making his way to WWE’s ‘main roster.’ The former Punishment Martinez was reportedly meant to make his SmackDown on FOX debut last week, but plans were changed.
Dave Meltzer recently reported on Wrestling Observer Radio what the latest is on Damien Priest’s WWE status. Damian Priest was reportedly meant to be heading to SmackDown as part of the main event scene. Priest was apparently going to be part of the ongoing Roman Reigns, Jey Uso and Kevin Owens angle.
Meltzer reported that Priest was to join the angle and team up with Kevin Owens. In fact last week’s SmackDown show was meant to be headlined by a tag team match; pitting Priest and Owens against the team of Reigns and Uso.
Damian Priest on SmackDown
Priest was actually at SmackDown and ready to go on the programme. But Meltzer would report that Kevin Owens actually spoke up and said that it ‘made no sense for Priest to be his best friend.’ Owens apparently pointed out how he and Priest have ‘nothing in common.’
Roman Reigns agreed with Owens’ assessment. Since Roman Reigns has a huge amount of ‘pull’ backstage it was decided that the plan was to be nixed.
Damian Priest is currently scheduled backstage to appearing on RAW sometime in the near future. There’s a very good chance that Priest will be introduced on the ‘main roster’ during the Royal Rumble match. The actual destination for the NXT Superstar is currently not confirmed.
