Former WWE Executive Director of SmackDown and WCW President Eric Bischoff recently discussed the landscape of pro wrestling in 2021.
The latest episode of Bischoff’s 83 Weeks podcast is a special Q&A episode, with fans sending in questions to Easy E. Co-host Conrad Thompson would ask Bischoff a question from a fan asking how pro wrestling can see another ‘boom period’ like it did in the mid to late nineties.
“Nothing happens overnight anymore” Bischoff would begin on the podcast. “I lived through…I was a part of that period of time when wrestling went from being ‘meh’ in the mid 90s, ’93-’94? And then fast forward to ’97 and it’s huge! That’s not going to happen like that again, because the world has changed now.”

“It’s not because Eric Bischoff was so much smarter than anybody else at that time, or anything like that” Easy E would continue. “The conditions were absolutely right, for that opportunity, to have the audience to tap into what we were doing and for it to explode. The world has changed since then. Now? it’s going to take a longer approach.”
Eric Bischoff would finish by saying how WWE or AEW can work with a long term strategy to bring pro wrestling back up to the mega mainstream. “It’s going to take a much longer strategic decision. It’s not to say ‘well you know we’re going to get there someday,’ you have to identify what that is and figure out how you’re going to get there and then commit to it. You have to be disciplined enough to stick with it, and the audience will follow. They really will.”
