WWE’s NXT program will reportedly be moving nights as of April. Currently the show goes head-to-head every week with All Elite Wrestling on Wednesday. Fans have dubbed the ongoing battle for the Nielsen ratings as the ‘Wednesday Night War,’ and it appears as though AEW may have won that war.
It was reported recently by the Mat Men Wrestling podcast that USA Network were changing the show’s broadcast day from Wednesday to Tuesday. Apparently the change is being made on April 13th, the first Tuesday following WWE’s WrestleMania 37 PPV event.
NXT vs AEW is Over?
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer also confirmed the reports. It was also added that almost all the key NXT personnel haven’t actually been told about a move of night right now.
With NXT moving nights it gives both NXT and AEW the opportunity to ‘breathe’ and grow. Before we would see hotshot booking, on both sides, to try and outdo the opposition in ratings. Sometimes this was at the detriment of the actual television programming, so hopefully this will signal a change in philosophy and get both shows the chance to break a million viewers every week.
