The “WWE Feel” and AEW Fans

Brian Cage, a prominent figure in All Elite Wrestling, recently admitted that he feels underappreciated by AEW fans.

The reason, he believes, is his “WWE feel.” This revelation came during a recent edition of the Busted Open Radio podcast, where Cage responded to the hosts’ comments about his struggle to connect with the AEW fanbase.

“In certain regards, yes. With our core audience at AEW, I feel they almost hate on me because of all those attributes [size, charisma, mic work, athleticism], I almost feel like that screams WWE. In some regards, it’s almost like anti-me, ’˜He doesn’t belong here. He’s too jacked, he does this,’ which are all positives in my book, but it feels like ’˜I’m on the wrong team,’” Cage said.

The Perception of Being “On the Wrong Team”

Cage’s comments highlight a unique challenge faced by wrestlers who have a certain look or style that fans associate with a different wrestling promotion.

Despite his talents and attributes, Cage feels that his physique and style, which fans perceive as more aligned with WWE, have made it difficult for him to win over AEW fans.

“I can toot my own horn and say, they can’t be me, so they’d rather attach on to a Darby Allin or someone they can live more viciously through as opposed to someone like me,” Cage added.
