AEW World Champion Jon Moxley is having a great time in the promotion. It has come to light that he reportedly didn’t have plans to re-sign with AEW prior to his recent contract extension.

Jon Moxley was not planning to ink a contract extension

After coming to terms on a new deal with the promotion, Moxley is expected to be with the promotion for at least five more years. Moxley’s responsibilities have been expanded, with the star now officially involved with coaching.

Per Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Moxley initially planned for his first deal to be his last full-time wrestling deal.

It has been noted that Moxley originally had plans to wrestle as a free agent after his contract expired, Meltzer wrote:

‘When he signed with AEW, the plan originally was to do three years, and that it would be his last major wrestling contract, and he would work independently from that point forward. Even as late as last year his thought was to continue to work shows for AEW as a freelancer if he could, but not to sign a new contract and just work wherever and whenever he wanted.’

Moxley worked for AEW for a while without a contract, with his previous deal expiring in July, months before AEW publicly announced his contract extension.
