The Notorious One Conor McGregor has reacted, again, to the now ’˜official’ retirement of UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Khabib said after his win against Justin Gaethje that he was going to retire from fighting in the cage. The Russian great stated that his mother wished for him to retire, and he was going to honour those wishes due to his father/head coach passing away from COVID-19 complications.
UFC President Dana White confirmed on Friday that Khabib had now retired, despite the President attempting to tease him back for a potential chance to go 30-0.
Dana White and Conor McGregor on Khabib Nurmagomedov Retirement
‘29-0 it is. He is 100% officially retired’ Dana White wrote. ‘It was incredible to watch you work @TeamKhabib, thank you for EVERYTHING and enjoy whatever is next my friend.’
Initially, McGregor responded with a backhanded jab at the former Champion. ‘Happy retirement kid, smell ya later’ Conor McGregor wrote on Instagram a few days ago. ‘Never forget who came in the game and made ye. Straight from my big Irish balls. Remember folks, if you hate cutting weight so much, all you have to do is move up a division. God bless.’
Conor McGregor has now thrown more verbal jabs at the 29-0 Russian. Writing on Twitter, McGregor said “8 ko/tko across 30 fights = zero power. Don’t forget it teddy bear.”
It’s worth noting that Khabib was able to take down McGregor with strikes in their 2018 fight.
