UFC Lightweight fighter Khama Worthy recently spoke to Fightful MMA. Worthy will be fighting this Saturday at UFC 260 against Jamie Mullarkey and Khama is currently 8/13 to win outright (according to SkyBet).
The 155 pounder discussed a number of topics during the interview, including the upcoming Charles Oliveira vs Michael Chandler fight at UFC 262.
That bout at UFC 262 will determine a new Lightweight Champion; with former Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov having ’˜officially’ retired over the weekend.
‘Let’s be realistic. I’m 34. It takes five years to get to a world title at 155 [pounds],’ Worthy said to Fightful. ‘Unless you’re Michael Chandler and you just come in and fight once and you get a f*cking world championship [shot].”
Khama Worthy on Michael Chandler
“I like Michael Chandler, don’t get me wrong, but I think I’d knock Michael Chandler’s f*cking head off” Worthy continued. “I’m just gonna put that out there. He’s a good fighter. He has phenomenal wrestling, sick kickboxing, but I don’t think he’s that good.”
“He did just get knocked out by a 4-foot-4 145-pound guy. I didn’t forget about that. F*cking ’˜Pitbull’ [Patricio Freire] is the size of my kid and he knocked him the f*ck out. But, it’s whatever.’
These comments echo those made by fellow 155 pound contender Islam Makhachev. ‘Honestly, I think Oliveira deserves it’ Makhachev said recently when speaking to RT Sport. ‘He’s got a good win streak, but I don’t agree with Chandler being in there. He had one UFC fight and he hasn’t been tested. That first fight ended quickly.’
