It was confirmed on Friday that UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov had officially retired. Although the dominant 29-0 Russian Champion had already claimed as such prior, UFC President Dana White was trying to tempt him back to the octagon.
‘29-0 it is. He is 100% officially retired’ Dana White wrote back on Friday. ‘It was incredible to watch you work @TeamKhabib, thank you for EVERYTHING and enjoy whatever is next my friend.’
Khabib said after his win against Justin Gaethje that he was going to retire from fighting in the cage. The Russian great stated that his mother wished for him to retire, and he was going to honour those wishes due to his father/head coach passing away from COVID-19 complications.
Tony Ferguson on Khabib Nurmagomedov Retirement
UFC fighter Tony Ferguson reacted to the news of Khabib’s retirement. Ferguson was always considered to be the ‘one that got away’ when it came to Khabib fights.
Responding to Khabib’s manager Ali Abdelaziz, Ferguson said “Ali, I Accept Your Client Fathead @TeamKhabib Verbal Tap. 29-1 It Is. It’s MMA Not Jiujitsu Ya Slop. Stick to Dodging Fights On Purpose & Bein’ A Sour Bish’.”
Tony Ferguson’s next fight has not yet been officially confirmed, however the UFC veteran will be looking to come back with a bang.
