The babyface vs heel storylines that were the mainstay of any wrestling program for decades are not as prevalent anymore. AEW star Jonathan Gresham believes that it’s a decision from WWE that messed things up. The former ROH champion spoke to WrestlePurists (H/t WrestlingInc) recently.

He was asked why he wrestles a slower and more technical style nowadays, instead of wrestling the high-flying style he did before. Gresham explained he believes heels shouldn’t be competing with faces for a pop. He then claimed that a statement from WWE ‘fu**ed up’ the heel vs face dynamic of wrestling:

‘Because now, wrestling has evolved so much ’“ I think it was something WWE said where it’s like people aren’t always good and aren’t always bad. That f’”ed up everything. Once that happened, things changed.”

Jonathan Gresham said that wrestling is a form of art that can be performed by two people, but there needs to be good and bad side to it:

“That [form of storytelling] can be done with a couple of people, but there need to be people that are bad and good. If you watch any successful Disney movie, there’s always a villain and a good guy. Now, most wrestling is face vs. face, and everything is pop, pop, pop.’
