WWE star Sasha Banks has maintained a distance from the wrestling world since walking out of the company in May.
While Banks, real name Mercedes Varnado has continued making headlines with various non wrestling appearances, there hasn’t been a solid update on her future within the business.
The latest rumor regarding her came from PWinsider, which reported that Banks is scheduled to be at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17.
Fightful Select recently provided some updates on how different companies are reacting to the news. Most prominently, nobody at WWE has heard about any status change for the former women’s champion:
“Fightful asked about Mercedes’ status with WWE after the heavy promotion of her appearing on USA Network’s Barmageddon. Nobody that we inquired with at WWE had heard any change or update on her status, or were at least willing to say as much.”
Is Sasha Banks leaving WWE?
AEW talents, on the other hand, have expressed excitement over a potential Sasha Banks debut for the company. They believe it can help their women’s division:
“However, several AEW talent were excited about the possibility of her coming in. One source quickly agreed they thought that having Sasha Banks on their show weekly is another “anchor” for their women’s division, something that could kick start interest in it, and feel would significantly help viewership.”
As far as NJPW is concerned, the report noted that the company didn’t confirm or deny the rumors about Sasha Banks at Wrestle Kingdom. This is different from their usual approach where they’ll quickly deny a story if it’s not correct.
