Cody Rhodes’ injury is expected to keep him out of action for the next few months and Roman Reigns has signed a new contract that will result in fans getting to see him a lot less than we are used to. Now it appears that WWE can lose another top star for the remainder of 2022, in form of Randy Orton.

The Viper has been out of action since May 20 SmackDown. He competed in the title unification match that saw RKO-Bro dropping the Raw tag team titles to The Usos. Orton was attacked by The Bloodline after this match and WWE later confirmed that he was out with an injury.

Fightful Select is now reporting that Orton has actually been dealing with a back injury for a while. It was something that Randy had to get worked on before competing in the title unification match. The injury has gotten worse since then and sources fear that the former world champion may have to get surgery to repair the damage. If Orton does end up having the surgery, it can keep him out of action for the remainder of 2022.

The report also reveals Randy Orton was originally slated for a feud with Roman Reigns that could have led to a SummerSlam match between the two. Riddle has been playing the role originally intended for Orton in his absence. Randy is currently not factored into any plans of the creative team.
