Eric Bischoff talks WWE vs AEW fanbase toxicity

Former WCW President Eric Bischoff recently discussed the WWE vs AEW fanbase toxicity, saying a lot of it is down to Tony Khan.

Speaking on his 83 Weeks Podcast, Bischoff stated: “So if you’re a loyal AEW fan and you want to be on that train, you’re going to do what Tony Khan does, and what a lot of top talent do on a weekly basis on social media as well as on their TV show, and you will be taking shots and trying to bury the competition” Bischoff began.

“That’s where it comes from, and people want to pile on and then they argue about it on social media. That’s where it comes from, in my opinion” Bischoff added.

“People want to see WWE get their comeuppance. Talent within AEW, including Tony Khan, are constantly taking shots at WWE in order to build more loyalty within their own brand.

“Again, not a criticism, but it is simply a cold hard fact, that’s where it comes from” the former Executive Director of SmackDown concluded.

Whilst it’s fair that there is a clear divide between certain wrestling fans on the subject, it’s also fair to say that All Elite has been stoking the fires in terms of competition.

And as Bischoff says, it’s not a criticism pointing out that they’re doing so. Both WCW and ECW found huge success by playing off the ‘us versus them’ mentality in the 90s.

Fundamentally, competition is what wrestling fans want, so it makes sense for All Elite to throw shots at their biggest competition.
