After months of rumors and speculations, the picture regarding Sasha Banks’ future is now becoming somewhat clear. Reports have revealed that Banks will be in attendance for NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom 17 event, indicating that she will be free of her contractual obligations to WWE by then.

A new story on Fightful Select provides some backstage news on the situation. They claimed that Banks, now going by her real name Mercedes Varnado had negotiated her exit from the company around June this year:

“It was confirmed to Fightful that Mercedes’ WWE exit was negotiated “months ago,” likely when Raj Giri of Wrestling Inc. reported as much. However, WWE has yet to officially confirm this, and she remains listed on the company’s official website.”

When it comes to outside appearances, Fighful claimed that Banks will be allowed to take wrestling bookings from January 1:

“It was also reiterated to us that Sasha Banks was able to take wrestling related bookings on January 1, something that Fightful Select reported this past fall. When we asked if that was “contractual,” we were told that it was”

Sasha Banks is also rumoured to be the mystery partner of Saraya for the January 11 episode of AEW Dynamite but there hasn’t been any update in that regard.
