There have been rumours abound since Jay White claimed that he was ’˜leaving’ New Japan Pro Wrestling. The former IWGP Heavyweight Champion lost against Kota Ibushi on Day 2 of Wrestle Kingdom at the start of the month. During the incredible promo that White cut after the match he stated that ‘after New Year Dash? I’m done.’
Since then there have been reports stating that WWE are making a ’˜big play’ for the Bullet Club member. Several promotions are reportedly interested in the Switchblade, but WWE appears to be making the biggest moves to try and sign the New Zealand native.
Jay White To AEW?
We now have an update on how AEW is seeing the situation, at least from the perspective of AEW Commentator Tony Schiavone. The former voice of WCW hosted his usual post-game AEW Dynamite show last night and he was asked by a fan if Jay White could be making his way to AEW anytime soon.
“I don’t think so,” Schiavone said as he replied to the question posed by the fan. “I think he’s pretty much locked into what he’s doing there [in Japan],” Tony added.
Now, whilst this is in no way a confirmation of Jay White’s status, it is interesting that Schiavone would say this. AEW appears to be more of a collaborative promotion than say the likes of WWE; so Schiavone may have more of an awareness of the contract dealings of the company than again, say a WWE.
Then again? Tony has quite a dry sense of humour, so he could be easily ‘playing’ the fans.
