Tomorrow night’s edition of SmackDown has already been taped to give performers and crew time off during the holidays. Even with the pre-tape, WWE has opted to make a huge title change on the show.
WWE Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn faced Big E in the main event of the show in a Lumberjack Match. Big E would defeat Zayn to become the new IC Champ after the lumberjacks prevented Zayn from escaping.
This will be Big E’s second run with the Intercontinental Championship. The powerhouse Superstar won the belt for the first time back in November 2013, defeating Curtis Axel on RAW. Big E’s title reign lasted 167 days before losing to Bad News Barrett at Extreme Rules 2014.
Here’s the current line up for the Christmas Day episode of SmackDown on FOX:
- WWE Universal Championship Steel Cage Match – Roman Reigns (c) vs. Kevin Owens
- WWE Intercontinental Championship Match – Sami Zayn (c) vs. Big E
- Asuka and Charlotte Flair defend the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships
