In the world of professional wrestling, it’s not uncommon for industry leaders to exchange verbal blows. Recently, a comment from WWE’s Triple H about All Elite Wrestling (AEW) sparked a significant reaction from AEW President Tony Khan.
The controversy began with the release of the “American Nightmare” documentary about Cody Rhodes, available on Peacock.
The documentary features a segment where Rhodes discusses his decision to leave AEW and return to WWE. Triple H, a prominent figure in WWE, commented on Rhodes’ time in AEW and his ambition to become WWE Champion.
Triple H stated, “It’s taking that gamble again and saying – ‘I didn’t grow up dreaming of being the champion or the face of a secondary promotion. I wanted to be the WWE champion.'”

Tony Khan: The Rebuttal
Tony Khan, the President of AEW, did not take kindly to Triple H’s remarks. In an interview with the Orlando Sentinel, Khan responded to the “secondary promotion” comment.
“We certainly won’t be the secondary promotion at All In,” Khan declared. “We’re No. 1 in the UK, on TV and with a record gate. I have a lot of respect for Cody. I know these weren’t his words, to be fair, but we’re not secondary in a lot of markets — for the first time in a long time, WWE has been secondary in a lot of markets… I’m proud of where we’re at and we’re not taking a back seat to anybody.”
