AJ Styles has worked for almost all major promotions during his career. He’s been a main eventer for companies such as Impact Wrestling, NJPW, and WWE and Styles is widely regarded as one of the best wrestlers of all time.
John Cena on the other hand has spent the majority of his career in WWE and he has been praised for his mic skills and charisma more than his abilities inside the squared circle. According to AJ, however, Cena actually surprised him with his in-ring skills.
The former WWE champion recently had an interview with The Halftime Show, where he named the 16-time world champion as someone who surprised him:
‘I’ve had a lot of tough opponents throughout my career. I will say that a guy that surprised me with how good he was in the ring would be John Cena. John is not known for being a technical mastermind in the ring, but he’s pretty good.”

AJ Styles said that he has had some of his better matches against John Cena. He claimed that Cena is one of the guys that may not look the part but he knows what he is doing:
“His mind for how everything needs to work and transition-wise. He’s just good. He knows what he’s doing.
“It’s one of those things where you thought, ’˜I’m the superior wrestler in the ring,’ but once you get in there with John Cena, you realize, ’˜Well, okay, I didn’t know that. Let’s keep going.’ He’s pretty good” Styles concluded.
