The world of WWE has been buzzing with speculation about the future of one of its most iconic superstars, Edge. After a nearly decade-long hiatus due to injuries, Edge made a surprising return to the WWE ring.

His comeback was miraculous, given that he had previously believed his wrestling days were behind him.

This recent stint in WWE has been unique for the Hall of Famer, emphasising his desire to conclude his wrestling career on his terms.

Speculations Surrounding Edge’s WWE Retirement

Rumours have been swirling about Edge’s potential retirement, especially after his scheduled face-off with Sheamus on SmackDown.

This match holds significance as Edge has never previously squared off against his good friend, Sheamus. Adding fuel to the fire, Dave Meltzer mentioned on Wrestling Observer Radio that Edge might hang up his boots post this SmackDown match.

The underlying reason? Edge’s aspiration is to retire in Toronto, his hometown. With the upcoming SmackDown being the last in Toronto for a while, many believed it could be Edge’s farewell.

The Truth Behind the Rumours

However, Ringside News claim to have reached out to sources close to the situation. A seasoned member of the WWE creative team clarified that there are no immediate plans for Edge to retire post the upcoming SmackDown.

This revelation means that the much-anticipated match against Sheamus in Toronto won’t be Edge’s swan song…hopefully.

It’s worth noting that Sheamus played a pivotal role in Edge’s decision to return to the ring, convincing him that he could still take on the physical demands of wrestling.

Edge’s Current WWE Journey

While Edge’s appearances have been sporadic, his impact remains undeniable. His last significant match was against Grayson Waller during SmackDown’s main event at Madison Square Garden on July 7th.

Although he might not be gracing the WWE stage as a full-time performer, it’s clear that Edge isn’t ready to bid farewell to his WWE journey just yet.
